At the Under-16 European Championships in Parma, scheduled for Sunday, September 21st to Saturday, September 27th, there will also be a representative from the Cagliari Tennis Club. Lorenzo Rocco , who grew up at the Monte Urpinu facility, on the Serie B1 team that narrowly missed promotion to Serie A2 last July, has been called up to the national team to represent the Italian national team at the Tennis Europe continental tournament, the highest individual competition for the category.
The young Sardinian athlete, born in 2009, will be one of eight Italians competing , four boys and four girls: in the men's team, he will be joined by Luca Cosimi, Mattia Logrippo, and Francesco Pansecchi. Lorenzo Rocco's arrival in the national team culminates a very positive season for the young talent from TC Cagliari. Currently ranked number 75 in the European Under-16 ranking, Rocco recently won the international tournament in Perugia and has already achieved his first significant results at the higher level, on the ITF Under-18 circuit , playing in a final in Livorno and two semifinals in Moldova.
These results, combined with his recent second place in doubles in Palermo alongside Petar Ciangherotti, have brought the young Sardinian close to the top 1,000 in the ITF international rankings , as well as establishing himself in the top spots among the Italian players in his age group.
The call-up therefore comes as the culmination of a very positive season.
"As Tennis Club Cagliari," says Lodovica Binaghi , board member responsible for the competitive sector, "we are proud of Lorenzo's call-up to the national team. Seeing one of our athletes, who trains daily on the club's courts under the guidance of Technical Director Martin Vassallo Arguello and his staff, particularly Carla Lucero and Candela Bugnon, receive the honor and prestige of representing Italy in a prestigious competition like the European Under-16 Championships is a source of great emotion and happiness for us . Furthermore, it is proof of the quality of the work we are carrying out with commitment and passion, as well as an incentive to continue to do better."
