"A worrying provision, which has the flavor of censorship if not even of religious persecution: intolerable in an inclusive society that respects all creeds ".
With these words the President of the Region Christian Solinas expresses his full solidarity with the teacher Marisa Francescangeli , teacher of the primary school of San Vero Milis suspended for two weeks from her job for having made the pupils recite two prayers in class before the Christmas holidays .
«As far as I know, no forcing was done by the teacher - continues Solinas - no work of religious proselytism, no coercion: the teacher taught her pupils a short prayer and a Christmas carol, a typical expression of our popular culture, praising peace and to brotherhood".
Again: «Punishing a teacher for this or for having made a rosary in class, which is also an expression of popular devotion respected even by other religions, is a sign of an iconoclastic fury that cannot be reconciled with the respect due to believers, and above all in a context in which no problem had arisen in this regard : on the contrary - the President continues - the work of the children had been oriented towards a school essay appreciated by all. I manifest my total closeness and solidarity to the teacher Francescangeli". Solinas asks that the School Directorate "immediately review the unjust punishment" which " is likely to represent a serious violation of the agreements in force between the Holy See and the Italian Republic" . Religious pluralism and multiculturalism are certainly not affirmed by canceling or forbidding the profession of the Christian faith, but by allowing everyone to freely exercise their cult".
