New cut in the tax wedge, over three billion in the period May-December 2023 which will end up in the paychecks of employees with medium-low incomes .
The measure, designed to "support the purchasing power of families", was approved yesterday in the Council of Ministers with the green light to the Def, the Economic and Financial Document .
The latest budget law confirmed the two-point cut in salary contributions up to €35,000 gross, today that cut is confirmed and a further point is added, but only for salaries up to €25,000 .
Basically, salaries that remain identical to those of the second half of 2022 and this beginning of 2023 above 25 thousand gross euros and that below this threshold will increase by 25-30 euros per month, explains Il Sole 24 Ore.
Growth this year, according to the Def, will settle at 1% , slowing down from 3.7% in 2022 but better than forecasts. Hence the treasury of 3 billion that the government will use to cut the wedge, which weighs heavily on the pockets of businesses and households.
The Def 2023 approved by the council of ministers confirms the "prudent and realistic" approach, with the aim of "showing seriousness and reliability" to the markets and the EU. The starting point is an economic-financial context in which the negative effects deriving from the pandemic and from high energy prices have diminished, but the uncertainty linked not only to the war, to the rise in interest rates and to the emergence of the crises of the banks .
But despite this, the Italian economy continues to show "a considerable amount of resilience and vitality", assures the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The fact that the most recent indicators "show that in the first months of 2023 the country's economy has started to grow again" also gives confidence. Hence the decision to set the GDP bar for this year at +1%, raising the forecast of 0.6% made in November in the Nadef by 4 decimals.
"The prudence of this document is a responsible ambition," underlined Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti . "The reforms launched intend to rekindle confidence in the future by protecting the birth rate and families also through the tax reform which will favor large households".
