The tug of war continues: thanks to the recent double defeat in the regional elections and the rivalries that are looming for the future, Lega and Forza Italia are challenging each other. Ready to do battle from the reform of Autonomy to that of citizenship, passing through the budget law. While waiting for a three-way meeting - with Giorgia Meloni, Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini as soon as the Prime Minister returns to Italy - it is the secretary of FI who is raising the stakes, in the majority. The Minister of Foreign Affairs promises "many" corrections to the maneuver and does not give up on the mother reform of the Lega, the one designed by Minister Roberto Calderoli to give more room for action to the Regions.
"Since before the ruling, we have shared what the Court said", insists the Forza Italia deputy prime minister, thus embracing the changes requested by the Constitutional Court after the objections of unconstitutionality raised on some parts of the law on differentiated autonomy. It is no coincidence that the observatory wanted by FI will meet on Friday afternoon to monitor, in particular, the Lep (essential levels of performance) and non-Lep matters, which have always been a source of perplexity among Forza Italia members in the south.
An activism that the members of the Northern League experience as a provocation and that could put at risk one of the historical battles, and the most northern, of the former Carroccio. With repercussions also and directly on the field, in the North.
The rivalry is very heated with FI which, unlike the League, is moving forward and growing with "the pace of an Alpine soldier". Tajani says so proudly, underlining: "We are the second force of the center-right and we must make a contribution to broaden the boundaries of the coalition". Another difference with the League is the greater presence of politicians and votes that the Blues have in the center and in the south. Also for this reason Salvini will aim to strengthen the alliance with the UDC with which months ago he signed a political pact in an attempt to take back Sardinia and Umbria.
The game between the two parties will also be played on the budget. FI assures battle and changes on the Irpef cut to the middle class, increase of minimum pensions and reduction of the web tax. Salvini responds with amendments on security, pensions and cut of the Rai license fee. Among the members of the Northern League, however, the accusation is that the secretary has sacrificed too much the economic issues and the relationship with the productive class, for other more radical requests but less felt by the citizens. For example that of migrants, more supported by FdI, or justice that to many seems reduced to a personal issue of the leader who, with the Open Arms trial on December 20, risks prison.
