This morning the Regional Councilor Daniele Cocco (Alliance Europe Green-Left-Possible, Article 1) deposited a question on the need to eliminate the restrictions imposed in all the territories of Sardinia to combat the spread of African swine fever .

«These measures impede free trade within the Community and internationally in pigs born and raised in Sardinia and the products obtained from them, causing considerable damage to the regional economy. The epidemiological situation of African swine fever in Sardinia has greatly improved in recent years - explained the vice-president of the Health Commission - with the complete eradication of the disease in the entire territory . The recent Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/2486 provided for the zoning of the Sardinia region, reclassifying a large part of its extension as free from Psa for the remainder divided into zones with progressive restriction called I, II, and III. Once again the most penalized territories are those of the interior and of central Sardinia, which paradoxically are precisely those which have suffered the greatest restrictions and the greatest economic damage in the last decade».

«Although there have been no cases of contagion in farmed or wild pigs for years, the island companies continue to suffer severe limitations, a situation that can no longer be tolerated. To be able to work and invest in the extra-regional market, operators in the sector need certainties from the Region, especially in this period in which the costs of production, transformation, transport and marketing of agri-food products are constantly increasing», added Cocco.

The regional councilor also requests that decree n. 6 of 8 February 2023, which transfers the powers for issuing contingent and urgent ordinances for the control of animal diseases, from the Region to the veterinary services of the ASL and to the mayors, «strongly aggravating the responsibility, safety and safety of local administrators and veterinarians".
