Precisely in the days of the battle of the breeders for the crisis in the pig sector , an outbreak of African swine fever returns to a regular farm in Talana: two pigs were found to be HIV-positive for the disease and yesterday about twenty heads of the entire farm were killed by the service Asl veterinarian, after the order signed by the mayor Cristian Paolo Loddo.

The two pigs did not have the full-blown disease and the health workers explained that in the past they came into contact with the virus and developed antibodies.

The last outbreak of swine fever in the country occurred at the end of last year on four irregular pigs. And today the new outbreak, which risks blocking the movement of meat in hundreds of companies in the area.

"The owner of the culled farm has regularly followed the protocols for swine fever and cannot find a plausible explanation for the seropositivity of the two pigs - explains Mayor Loddo - As the country's first health manager, I urge the competent health bodies to do their part. Here it is a question of understanding how we must move not only from a health point of view but also from an organizational point of view: we ask for explanations on how to stem the disease immediately and how to control it from now on ".

"There must be the will to give guarantee to pig farms - concludes the mayor of Talana -: if there is an outbreak close to a company, the other farms are not blocked. Thinking of encouraging pig farming without these guarantees is alone a utopia, all the more so in this delicate moment, when the crisis in the sector risks leaving rubble ".
