The end of the embargo on exports, which for years now weighs on the entire pig sector of the island due to African swine fever (Psa), could be near .

Yesterday in Brussels a meeting was held with the Director General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Andrea Costa, and the heads of the Regional Project Unit for the eradication of Psa and the Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia.

The commitment has yet to be formalized, it establishes a road map that will result in the sending and examination of reports on a monthly basis on the situation on the island. The process will lead to a decision on the revision of the restrictions in force within the year .

“We have been waiting for the end of the embargo for a long time. In terms of the eradication of African swine fever, we have achieved important milestones and now it is indispensable and necessary that the results and sacrifices of farmers and communities, from citizens to mayors, to operators in the field, are recognized without further delay ", says Christian Solinas .

"We responded promptly and without delay to the requests and indications that came to us from Brussels", underlines the commissioner Nieddu , recalling that "the results obtained were certified in the last audit by the European inspectors who were able to appreciate the work carried out also on the front of the surveillance of the wild and the wild ".

"In the path that will open - continues the regional councilor for Health - we aim to confirm the results achieved by continuing with the new plague plan which on the one hand strengthens the measures to favor the emergence of irregular farms, and on the other simplifies the procedures and supports the many certified activities ".
