The European Union has given the green light to a support measure for Italian farmers, who will have a total of 90 million euros available to be divided and distributed through direct grants and subsidized services.

The provision, which has as its horizon December 31, 2029, has as its objectives the promotion of primary agricultural production, the processing and marketing of agricultural products.

In particular, the aim is to "support the reorganisation of agricultural supply chains at local level to create better market relations and benefits for the sector in terms of income, resilience, sustainability and innovation".

Furthermore, a note from Brussels explains, «the scheme will allow companies located in a specific geographical area (the so-called “food district”) to identify their needs and be supported on the basis of a “district contract” with the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry».

The scheme will provide support for investments, while allowing producers to participate in quality schemes, knowledge and information actions, advisory services and cooperation and promotion measures.

According to the estimates of the EU Commission, the beneficiaries of the measure will be 300 throughout Italy, 99% of which should be micro-enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises.
