Developments continue to emerge in the civil trial concerning the tragic deaths of Matteo and Francesco Pintor, which occurred on December 25, 2017, on State Road 129.
In recent days, engineer Paolo Marcialis, an expert appointed by the judge, formally requested that Anas hand over the original plans for the curve where the accident occurred, the permits for the crossing, and the crash tests carried out on the guard rail installed on that stretch of road.
The incident has once again put the spotlight on Sardinian road safety. Democratic Party Senator Marco Meloni also addressed the issue, announcing the submission of a parliamentary question to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.
The goal is to obtain full transparency from Anas regarding the technical and administrative documents relating to State Road 129, a road sadly known for its frequency of serious accidents.
"During a meeting in Sassari dedicated to road safety, we discussed data and concrete solutions," Meloni explained, "from the need for greater investment to routine maintenance, from inspections to a culture of prevention. But the news reminds us how far we still are from a truly safe system for users."
Meloni's intervention was also motivated by the commitment of the AdessoBasta association, which fights for safety on the island's roads and recalled the plight of the Pintor brothers, whose deaths may have been aggravated by the presence of a "straight" guardrail, the compliance of which has yet to be verified.
"It's unacceptable," the senator added, "that after years we still can't access all the documentation requested by the judge's expert. This is an open wound that affects the institutions and those who manage our infrastructure."
The parliamentary question aims to shed light on the reasons why Anas has not yet provided all the documents relating to the design, installation and maintenance of the barriers along the State Road 129, and to urge the government to indicate a clear line to the company to guarantee transparency and safety.
"We owe it to the families who are asking for justice and to all those who walk those streets, today and tomorrow," concluded Meloni.
