Marco Spissu's Italy secured their third consecutive victory in the buildup to the European Championship, which kicks off on August 28th in Cyprus against Greece. At the PalaTrieste, Gianmarco Pozzecco's Azzurri defeated Luca Banchi's Latvia 91-75.
Simone Fontecchio was the top scorer with 21 points , followed by Giampaolo Ricci (16), Niccolò Melli (13) and Matteo Spagnolo (12). Spissu also played well, scoring 11 points and producing a decisive burst at the end of the third quarter to repel the Latvian comeback attempt.
The final quarter saw Italy extend their lead to 25-12, sealing the win. Darius Thompson, still struggling to regain his form, was absent. The naturalized American's debut is scheduled for Thursday at the PalaDozza in Bologna against Argentina (8 p.m.), the last friendly on Italian soil before the Acropolis Tournament in Athens and his eagerly awaited European debut .
