Both players were suspended for one match . This was the decision of Serie A sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea, following the tense confrontation between Luciano Spalletti and Fabio Pisacane following the 1-1 draw between Cagliari and Juventus.
The sports judge's statement reads that Spalletti 's suspension was handed down "for having, at the end of the match, adopted a provocative attitude towards the opposing team's coach , which created tension between the members of the two benches."
Pisacane 's foul was a "reaction foul." The statement reads: "For having, at the end of the match, reacted to the provocative behavior of the opposing coach, fueling tension between the two benches." Therefore, the coach will not be on the bench for the away match in Monza, scheduled for Monday, October 19th, at 6:30 PM.
Cagliari also received two fines totaling 7,000 euros : one of 4,000 for the fans throwing three smoke bombs onto the pitch, and one of 3,000 "for unjustifiably causing a two-minute delay to the start of the first half."
Among the players suspended, all for one match, are Donyell Malen (Roma), Lorenzo Lucchesi (Monza) and Eljif Elmas (Atalanta).
