At the 2021 Web Summit in Lisbon, the most important European event dedicated to technology and digital innovation, scheduled from 1 to 4 November, there will also be Sardinia with 6 start-ups hosted in a space organized by Sardegna Ricerche on behalf of the 'regional department of industry.

About 40 thousand people are expected this year, including 700 international investors.

The aim of the event is to offer an overview of the new frontiers of technology and bring together the big names in the ICT sector and the most promising start-ups from all over the world (there will be over 1,250).

On the program, high-level conferences, with over 700 speakers, including Brad Smith (president of Microsoft), Tim Berners Lee (co-inventor of the World Wide Web), Werner Vogels (CTO of Amazon), Stephen Kaufer (CEO of Tripadvisor ) and Roula Khalaf (Director of the Financial Times).

The exhibiting start-ups were selected through a public notice by Sardegna Ricerche. Each start-up will have a stand available within the Sardinia Region area and will be able to participate in initiatives dedicated to new businesses, including coaching activities ("Mentor Hours"), a pitch competition and meetings with potential investors. The 6 Sardinian startups will also participate in a networking event for Italian companies on the occasion of a meeting with the ambassador of Italy in Lisbon, Carlo Formosa.

The initiative, as pointed out by Anita Pili, Councilor for Industry, is part of the Regional Program for internationalization, approved by the Regional Council, among the activities for the promotion of innovative and ICT companies envisaged by the three-year framework agreement signed between the the Department of Industry of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and the regional agency Sardegna Ricerche.
