Jannik Sinner joins Matteo Berrettini in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. On the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne the South Tyrolean defeated the home idol number 42 in the ranking and 32 in the seeding, Alex De Minaur, in three sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3, 6-4.

For the first time in history there are two Azzurri in the quarterfinals of the first Slam of the season. More generally, they are the first Italian couple in the quarter Slam since 1973, when the protagonists were Panatta and Bertolucci.

Having entered the heart of the tournament, both Sinner and Berrettini easily won their eighth-final in three sets. And now the level rises. On Tuesday morning Berrettini will play the entry to the semifinals with the Frenchman Gael Monfils, on Wednesday it is the turn of the South Tyrolean who will face the number 4 in the world, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

"I feel I have raised the level of my tennis compared to previous matches," said Sinner after the easy win over De Minaur. "The most important aspect of this victory - he added - was my ability to find a solution to the initial difficulties. It was not an easy match, he is an incredible player and when he plays at home he becomes even more difficult to beat".
