« We have the feeling that the Government now considers the dispute closed, while the relaunch of the aluminum factory is still on the high seas . We need to reopen a table to take stock of the situation and understand what future awaits us."

The cry of alarm comes from Roberto Forresu (Fiom-Cgil) , who spoke in the Productive Activities Commission of the Regional Council which addressed the delicate situation of the Sider Alloys plant in Portovesme .

The unions, heard at the request of the Northern League group leader Michele Ennas, called for an intervention by the Region on the ministry to reopen the discussion table between the parties.

At the moment 200 workers are employed in the plant, another 350 are on redundancy and 16 are awaiting a contract renewal .

«The agreements signed in 2018 must be respected, Sider Alloys took over the plant 5 years ago and must decide what it wants to do. The Region has invested 2.5 million for the training of workers, why aren't they rehired?", stated Renato Tocco of Uilm .

«The program agreement expires on December 31st, we need to speed up the process and release the 160 million foreseen by the program agreement for the relaunch of the factory», underlined Giuseppe Masala of the CISL .

The Commission will convene Sider Alloys in the next few days, Michele Ennas said: «We need to take stock of the situation on a very important dispute not only for Sulcis, but for the whole of Sardinia. The action towards the ministry is good, but it is also useful to listen to the top management."
