Over 200 thousand euros in refreshments were provided to 121 companies by the Emergency Committee, made up of the three consortia of Sardinian DOP cheeses - the Consorzio del Pecorino Romano, the Consorzio del Pecorino Sardo and the Consorzio del Fiore Sardo - to help farmers damaged by fires. last summer.

The idea of the Committee was born after the Pecorino Romano board of directors set up a permanent solidarity fund to provide aid to shepherds in case of need and decided to allocate a large part of it to post-fire refreshments. At that point, to set up the solidarity machine now in motion and manage the funds, it was decided to set up an Emergency Committee formed by the consortia of the three Sardinian DOPs: the Committee, immediately operational, collected donations from companies and individuals, the contribution of the three Sardinian PDOs and the generous donations of the consortia of many other Italian cheeses, from Grana Padano to Parmigiano Reggiano, from Gorgonzola to Provolone Valpadana. A sign, on their part, of great and appreciated solidarity.

The sums disbursed by the Committee managed to cover about 10% of the damages reported . "Nobody was left without refreshments on our part - explains the president of the Consortium for the protection of pecorino romano, Gianni Maoddi - it was a precise choice to want to give a signal and concrete help to all those who have come to us. And let's talk about the breeders from all over Sardinia, damaged by the fires of last summer ".

"We are close to the world of shepherds , we are complementary to them, and we are aware of the problems they face every day. The Fund is a way of saying that we are there , that we are concretely beside it and that we will continue to be so in the future, with the common goal of protecting and growing the sector of which, all together, we are part ", the conclusion.
