The proposal to postpone the biological shutdown to the end of April to allow for the conclusion of the sea urchin fishing season and in the meantime to define the compensation plan for fishermen received an almost unanimous opinion. This was discussed during the meeting of the Productive Activities Commission of the Regional Council.

The councilors Gianfranco Satta (Progressives), Emanuele Cera (Forza Italia) and Dario Giagoni (Lega) voted in favor of the postponement. Francesco Mura (Brothers of Italy), while declaring himself in favor, asked to evaluate the proposal with a further study. However, perplexities came from the Psd'Az which, through the group leader Franco Mula, highlighted the need for urgent intervention to try to remedy the impoverishment of the seabed. Position also supported by the Councilor for Agriculture Gabriella Murgia who recalled the studies made by Sardinian universities and research centers that have ascertained a situation of extreme suffering of the marine ecosystem. "The law was approved by the Council - Murgia underlined - now it must be implemented. We are ready to publish the expression of interest to allow fishermen to carry out alternative activities that allow them to obtain compensation".
On the other hand, all the professional fishermen's associations are contrary to this hypothesis, which have reiterated the request for a postponement of the arrest and the preparation of a plan that allows operators to have income support and, at the same time, to the Sardinian seas to have a serious restocking plan.

The postponement proposal will now be evaluated in a comparison between the majority and the opposition. If an agreement is found, the law could be amended with an emergency measure to be brought to court next week.
