The Sassari will now have its officially recognized writing rules . In fact, the conference room of the municipality of Sassari hosted the presentation of the official spelling standard of the Turritana language.

Illustrated by the speakers Maurizio Virdis , academic and linguist of the University of Cagliari, Mario Marras , teacher, author and expert in the Sassari language, and Riccardo Mura , phonetician and expert in Gallurese, a variant that, with its specificities and differences , constitutes from a linguistic point of view the Sardinian-Corsican area together with the Turritano.

The supervision of the project was handled by the Camillo Bellieni Institute. “We are very satisfied with the result achieved - declared the president, Maria Doloretta Lai -, the result of a long and demanding work, which is also a very important starting point for restoring dignity to the Sassarese variant . Just as, by the will of the Region, it was decided that all the alloglot minorities present in Sardinia must have it ”.

Orthographic standardization is a tool that can be used to implement the teaching of Sassarese, especially in schools, or in courses aimed at adults who have an interest in specializing in the sector. The main communities affected by the Turritan language are Sassari, Sorso, Porto Torres and Stintino , which in recent weeks have been involved in public meetings to bring the population aware of the initiative, collect feedback and suggestions.

The project was presented by the Municipality of Sassari as part of the public notice concerning the assignment of the “Funds to promote the orthographic standardization of Sassari, Tabarchino and Gallura.
