Italy remains divided in two even in salaries, which in the North are on average 35% higher than those in the South. Among the lowest salaries are also those of the Sardinians, in particular in Nuoro, second to last in the ranking, ahead of only Vibo Valentia . The payroll calculations were made by Cgia di Mestre , elaborating data from INPS and ISTAT: if those employed in the northern regions have an average gross daily wage of 101 euros, their southern colleagues earn only 75.

If the Italian average is 22,839 euros per year in salary, the Sardinian average is almost 6 thousand euros lower .

A difference, says the Mestre research office, due to the greater productivity of work in the North, which exceeds the figure for the southern regions by 34%. The comparison in absolute terms makes this disparity very clear: the average gross annual salary of an employee in Lombardy is equal to 28,354 euros; in Calabria it amounts to just over half, 14,960 euros. In Sardinia, sixteenth among the twenty Italian regions, it amounts to 16,958 , better only than Puglia, Campania, Sicily and Calabria.

But if in Lombardy labor productivity is equal to 45.7 euros per hour worked, in Sardinia it is only 31.3, and in Calabria 29.7 . In the productivity rankings the Island is third to last, doing better only than Calabria and Puglia .

The abolition of wage cages in the early 1970s, observes the Cgia, has produced only part of the desired effects. And wage inequalities have remained.

Among the cities with the highest salaries , Milan stands out with 32,472 euros per year , followed by Parma (26,861 euros), Modena (26,764 euros), Bologna (26,610), Reggio Emilia (26,100). The poorest employed workers, however, are found in Trapani where they receive an average gross annual salary of 14,365 euros, in Cosenza (14,313 euros), Nuoro (102nd and penultimate with 14,206 euros) . In last place are employed workers from Vibo Valentia, with a paycheck of 12,923 euros , 10 thousand less than the national average.

How are the other Sardinian cities positioned? Cagliari 66th (18,397 euros), Oristano 85th (16,453), Sassari 89th (15,978) .
