Resounding Sardinian hat-trick at the 4th edition of the Coliseum International Film Festival held in Rome over the past few days. The jury of the competition for independent cinema awarded “Doppia Coppia” by the director from Sassari Igor Biddau as best film. The feature film stars Stefano and Michele Manca, known on TV and in cabaret as Pino e gli Anticorpi. The two actors from Sassari did an encore in the humorous short category on social media with “ATPino's,” a short they created and starred in as part of the communication campaign for the Azienda Traporti Pubblica di Sassari. The hat-trick was completed by director Roberto Pili who won the Best Documentary Editing award with “Profondo Nero.”
The festival saw the participation of 2,085 cinematographic works from 81 countries.
Double Couple - The film, released in 2023, revived the all-Sassari collaboration between director Igor Biddau and the brothers Stefano and Michele Manca, who had already worked together for “Bianco di Babbudoiu” (award-winning in Russia) and for “Come se non ci fosse un domani”. In “Doppia Coppia” the Manca brothers are the protagonists together with Emanuela Mascherini and Maria Celeste Sellitto of a romantic comedy with an environmentalist flavour. And in some ways against the grain given that in times of apps on mobile phones to facilitate meetings, the two couples prefer to live an experience in nature, in this case the Vallombrosa Biogenetic Nature Reserve, in Tuscany.
Curiosity: among the Italian films in competition there was also “Caracas” with Toni Servillo and Marco D'Amore who had to “settle” for the award for best direction.
Deep Black – The award for best editing in a documentary film went to Roberto Pili for a work that explores the theme of the relationship between art and mental well-being through the story of Davide Lai, a historic Sardinian writer known in the world of urban art as Nero. The cast of the documentary film includes iconic names of the Italian hip hop scene such as DJ Ice One, Kaos One and Danno, representatives of Sardinian culture such as Bboy Lucio and Matteo Prosa, mental health professionals such as psychiatrist Alessandro Montisci and Asarp president Gisella Trincas. On the stage of the Auditorium Cinema Seraphicum in Rome, the award was collected by producer Francesco Pili.
ATPino's – The best humorous short on social media was the series of sketches created and performed by Michele and Stefano Manca for AtP Sassari. In this case, the tried and tested duo brought the comedy of Pino e gli Anticorpi, which was so successful on TV, first in the show “Colorado” and then on Canale Nove with “Only Fun-Comico Show”. Only this time, the examiner explained to the candidate's hilarious answers how to validate a ticket on the bus and other practical information.
