An absolute novelty arriving on the tables for Christmas: the Igp lamb of Sardinia 4.0, 100% sustainable, with certified zero carbon dioxide emissions.

It was announced by Coldiretti.

This is the result of the "VERSOA Project", financed by BS Green, a company that operates in the recovery and valorisation of secondary products of animal origin, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture of the University of Sassari, the Consortium of Sardinian Lamb Igp , Coldiretti Sardegna, the Fratelli Ibba – Abbi Group and the butchers Stc food and Sardinya carni and seven farmers.

«The first sustainable lamb in the world, available to consumers yesterday with a preliminary batch on the counters of the TuttoGiorni supermarkets in Cagliari and Sassari and in the CRAI supermarket in Oristano, was presented yesterday morning in Sassari in the Cappio-Borlino hall of the Department of Agriculture in the presence of the students of the Sustainable Meat course taught by Professor Giuseppe Pulina, coordinator of the VERSOA project», explains a note from Coldiretti.

"It is - continues the association - IGP Sardinian lambs certified NeutryFoood® according to international parameters (certification of total sustainability with the objective of zero emissions and global animal welfare) arrived for the first Sardinian sheep farms that have joined the project" .

Studies have shown that the carbon balance of this meat is zero. It has been calculated that the absorption of carbon, in the farms examined, compensates for what is emitted, thanks to the absorption in the soil of organic substances, in the vegetable component, above all trees, for example in meriagros. All through scientific methods certified according to international standards.

«A first step that meets the need of citizens to have products certified for sustainability - says Andrea Massidda CEO of BS Green -. Our commitment, together with the project partners, is to make all Sardinian food chains, including vegetables, totally sustainable».

“An important milestone also for farmers - continues Battista Cualbu, president of Coldiretti Sardegna and of the PGI Agnello di Sardegna Consortium -. The certification that emerged from this project has the merit of guaranteeing our work also in front of the consumer».

"At the same time - adds Luca Saba, director of Coldiretti Sardegna - this first test is the demonstration that many other Sardinian farms can already be ready to be carbon-neutral certified and we can aspire to a totally sustainable certified Sardinian agriculture".

"Our work continues towards a product with a clear, sustainable and healthy origin - underlines Alessandro Mazzette , director of the Consortium for the protection of Sardinian PGI lamb - guaranteeing the consumer with clear certifications that can be found on the label".

«Awareness towards the ethical needs of consumers on environmental issues - says Marco Ibba for the Ibba Brothers and Abbi Group which hosts the first zero-emission lamb in its slaughterhouses - will be the trump card for a distribution that looks beyond the walls of the supermarket . Being the first in the world to offer this traditional product close to Christmas to our customers is further confirmation of our commitment to give value to work and the environment in Sardinia».

«This project - according to Giuseppe Pulina - which began with suckling lambs will continue for the certification of neutrality of beef and pork and, subsequently, of sheep and goat milk. Certifying as many companies as possible will be able to ensure Sardinia a privileged place in the export of our products of animal origin in those areas where citizens' sensitivity to environmental issues is more developed, creating a real competitive advantage over productions that are not certified for sustainability". .
