There were almost 8 thousand IT violations recorded in 2022 against Sardinian companies. Crimes that were at the center of a Confartigianato Sardinia seminar which saw the intervention of experts and the postal police.

In the past year, according to data processed by the Research Office of Confartigianato Sardegna, complaints from citizens, businesses and institutions relating to hacker attacks were exactly 7,791, up by +89.2% (Italian average 72, 8% and fifth place for the Island) compared to 2006, when there were only 2,431 reports. Also in 2022, frauds and violations grew by only 8.2% (second to last place in Italy), in contrast to the growth of the national average which is +18.4%.

Among the Italian provinces, Cagliari is the one that has recorded the most reports of computer crimes (scams and frauds): 95 reports per 10 thousand inhabitants. In second place Verbano-Cusio-Ossola with 78.

80% of the attacks, confirms the Postal Police, affected small and medium-sized businesses.

Of those who pay a ransom to have their data returned, 50% of them get nothing back. Bear in mind that it only takes 6 minutes for a hacker to identify an 8-character alphanumeric password.

The seminar entitled “Artisan businesses and IT security. Why deal with it, how to manage risks and avoid attacks" took place at the former tobacco factory in Cagliari, organized by Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna. Three of the major island experts in the sector, Luca Murgianu (management and IT engineer), Francesco Greco (Manager of the Cyber Security Operations Center - Sardinia Postal Police), and Davide Ariu (CEO and founder of Pluribus One), coordinated by the regional secretary of Confartigianato, Daniele Serra, discussed with businesses, citizens and institutions about the vulnerability of Sardinian companies in the face of cyber attacks and the risks faced by production activities, also illustrating solutions for safe navigation and for defending networks and data.
