Sardinia protagonist in the national championship of Charolaise and Limousine beef cattle breeds which took place over the weekend in Bastia Umbra.

As announced by the Regional Breeders Association (AARS), 9 of the 10 island leaders present were awarded.

A great success for the island which ranks second in Italy, after Sicily, for the total number of heads (13,206) of the two beef cattle breeds.

Sardinia, on the other hand, is third in terms of the number of Charolais heads (2,268) after Sicily and Lazio, and also third in terms of the number of Limousines (10,938) after the usual Sicily and Tuscany.

In particular, on the island there is 10.71% of the total of Italian Charolais heads and 13.32% of Limousines with a greater concentration in Northern Sardinia where 56.35% of Charolais heads are present (1,278 ) and 48.98% of Limousine (5,357). In fact, the nine garments awarded in Bastia Umbra come from here (a junior champion, two first places, five second places, a third place as well as a special prize).

"An important success for Sardinia and which has even greater value as it comes after two years of blackout due to the pandemic that has suspended all the exhibitions and moments of confrontation", explains the partner Coldiretti Michele Filigheddu, breeder of Arzachena who at the exhibition national team won two second places. "It gives us new and great stimuli to restart and prepare the regional exhibition of Charolaise and Limousine which will be held from 22 to 24 April next in Ozieri".

"It is the confirmation of the great work and passion of the approximately 450 breeders of these two breeds of beef cattle registered in the herd book - the comment of the director of Coldiretti North Sardinia, Ermanno Mazzetti -, breeders who have continued to work with the same commitment even during the pandemic ".
