A possible new role in the world of football for Mauro Balata, a Sardinian lawyer originally from Calangianus.

After a long stint as president of Lega B, he is now among the candidates for the role of CEO of Roma. The CEO position has been vacant since September 2024, when director Lina Souloukou stepped down. She was supposed to be replaced by Alessandro Antonello, former CEO of Inter Milan, but the Giallorossi management is now considering other candidates.

Balata, born in 1962, joined the FIGC's Federal Prosecutor's Office in 1990. On September 13, 2017, he was appointed President of Lega B, a position he held for two terms, contributing—among other things—to the return of Serie B to 20 teams and the introduction of VAR . In 2021, he became head of the Italy Under-21 delegation, and in 2023, a member of the FIGC's Presidential Committee.

Last December 16th, after the elective assembly, Balata concluded its experience in Lega B with the handover to current president Bedin. Now, a year later, the club has the opportunity to return to football and Serie A.
