For over thirty hours, what remains of the Atina has been under "special surveillance" in the Gulf of Olbia . The maritime directorate of the Coast Guard , led by Captain Gianluca d'Agostino , has not lost sight of what remains of the 47-meter yacht owned by a luxury charter company flying the Cook Islands flag, which caught fire in recent days and sank about 500 meters from the Saline beach .

The danger of environmental pollution has been averted : in fact, the Coast Guard and firefighters immediately worked to ensure that the tanks containing 50 thousand litres of diesel remained intact, albeit at a depth of between 6 and 8 metres on the sandy seabed.

"The only traces of the sinking, that is some debris from the boat, arrived yesterday on the beach of Pittulongu and the Municipality promptly cleaned them up - explains Captain D'Agostino - I do not exclude that with the first movements of the wreck this could happen again, but the administration assures that it is ready. From an initial estimate, we expect to recover what remains of the yacht to then dispose of it in the shipyard, within five to seven days maximum ".

The costs of the operation are covered by the boat insurance.

At this very moment, another row of booms is being positioned around the wreck, while the divers will be busy sealing vents and air leaks from which polluting liquids could escape with a special putty .

"In the next 20 hours - announces Captain D'Agostino - the equipment needed to close the operation will arrive in the area, namely tugboats, ROVs and other underwater teams. There is no environmental concern - he reiterates - the sea is absolutely clean, and this is also confirmed by the satellite images provided by the European agency Emsa and by the passages of our planes with remote sensing instruments on board". The luxury vessel had been rented and at the time of the fire, which broke out from the garage deck, it was carrying eight people on board: all of them managed to save themselves with the tender provided.
