The preliminary hearing in the death of Antonio Masia, who died on July 25, 2022, at the Truncu Reale waste treatment plant, was postponed until March 2027.
A tragic incident has seen Antonio Cesaraccio, a partner and chairman of the Gesam Board of Directors, Mario Innocenzo Giannasi, the plant's technical manager, and Michela Coppola, the company's head of safety and prevention services, investigated for manslaughter. Their charges allegedly consisted of negligence, recklessness, and incompetence, as well as failure to comply with workplace safety regulations.
Four years ago, the company's employee lost his life in circumstances that have not yet been fully clarified. In a summary proceeding, a colleague of the victim, also accused of manslaughter and represented by the lawyer Luca Sciaccaluga, was acquitted because he did not commit the crime. At yesterday's hearing , Francesca Fiori, representing the civil parties, asked preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana to amend the charges and to remove the documents from the criminal trial involving Saba himself from the file sent by the prosecutor to the preliminary hearing judge. This includes the testimonies of the prosecutor's two technical consultants, which, according to the lawyer, the magistrate could not have attached because they did not constitute evidence.
Prosecutor Elisa Succu rejected the objection, as did defense lawyers Nicola Lucchi, representing Cesaraccio and Coppola, and Giorgio Murino, representing Giannasi. The preliminary hearing judge will resolve the objection on March 4th, the date of the hearing.
