Brawl inside the Uta prison: some inmates dismantled a wheelchair supplied to a disabled person to attack a rival. To stem the fight , a prison police superintendent intervened and received a blow to his hand with an iron pipe, which caused him to fracture his finger.
The complaint about yet another episode of violence comes from PolPenUil, through the secretary Michele Cireddu, who finds himself starting 2024 with the same spirit that dominated the past year, in a situation that has become unsustainable within the prison.
"The attackers used parts of a wheelchair, stealing it from a disabled prisoner, to obtain bladed weapons with which to attack a contending prisoner," explains Cireddu.
«The intervention of a superintendent was providential, preventing the attackers from causing serious injuries to the attacked prisoner. In an attempt to stop the violent action, however, he suffered a blow from an iron pipe to his hand which caused his finger to break. Reinforcements then arrived and managed to separate the prisoners before the situation could become even more dramatic."
The policeman who avoided the worst at the last minute was rushed to hospital, "where it seems he was diagnosed with a broken finger."
By now the Uta prison, underlines Cireddu, «has become the scene of unprecedented violence and there is no way out. A few months ago, after insistence also from Uil, an inmate was removed because he had literally set fire to the sections and after a few months, we discover that he returned to the Cagliari institute despite the fact that an incompatibility had been created with the operators and with the other prisoners."
It is therefore easy to predict, for Cireddu, «that there will be other days marked by violence and aggression. In all of this, we see a total disinterest on the part of the department and the institutions in dealing with and resolving what we believe is an emergency of attacks against police officers."
