The number of human cases of West Nile virus infection in the Province of Oristano has risen to twenty-four . The latest three diagnoses concern a young man in his early thirties, hospitalized at San Martino Hospital in Oristano, a man in his fifties, and a man in his sixties, both under observation in the emergency room of the same hospital.

This brings the number of people hospitalized at San Martino to ten, with the pressure on the wards increasing as infections rise hour by hour.



The Prevention Department of the Local Health Authority (ASL 5) of Oristano immediately began an epidemiological investigation and preventive measures , which include the disinfection of the residential areas of people who have contracted the virus by the competent authorities.

PREVENTION – The director of the Prevention Department, Maria Valentina Marras, reminded: «We remind all citizens, especially the frail and elderly, to stay away from any risky situations and to protect themselves from the bites of this insect with all the tools we already know: avoid standing water, protect yourself with repellent sprays and long clothing when outdoors, and screen your home with mosquito nets».

"The number of infections has significantly increased in recent weeks compared to the same period in previous years," added Grazia Cattina, director general of the Local Health Authority (ASL 5). "This makes it even more important to follow these unique prevention and protection measures against the disease. And it's essential that those caring for the elderly and children ensure that both are implementing the same protective measures."
