«We send probes to Mars, but Sardinia remains unreachable in case of emergency»
The bitter story of a Sardinian who took two days to reach his dying father from Varese to CarboniaPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
A phone call announcing that dad, hospitalized at Sirai di Carbonia, is very ill, the attempt to reach him leaving from Varese, but the frantic search for the plane which unfortunately gives the bitter result: no free seats on flights departing from Malpensa, Linate, Bergamo or Turin . And the ferry as the only alternative, on a very long journey which for himself and three other family members will cost the certainly not modest sum of over a thousand euros .
This is what happened to Gianpaolo De Nunzio , a resident of the Lombard but Sardinian city of Teulada , who decided to tell what happened to him recently because "how many Sardinian emigrants - he asks - will have to suffer all this before things change?".
«When I received the call from my mother who announced to me that dad had little left to live – explains Gianpaolo – I rushed to look for a flight: it was Friday 16 June, no availability with any airline from any of the airports that gravitate between Milan, Bergamo and Turin . So the ferry from Genoa to Olbia as the only alternative, which also left half an hour late, it's not clear for what reasons: upon my arrival in Carbonia on Saturday afternoon I just had time to say my last goodbyes to dad , while other family members didn't make it ."
«We managed to send the probes to Mars, but Sardinia remains unreachable in case of emergency » further specifies Gianpaolo, who cannot understand why it is not possible to predict availability on planes that in the summer season are not the exclusive prerogative of tourists .
«Those like me who have family in Sardinia find it impossible to reach them in case of emergency: getting there in good time, and it certainly doesn't say free but paid albeit with "humane" rates, I believe it should be a priority for those who govern the Island and the country".
«I believe it is time for politics to take action – the conclusion – to solve a problem that affects thousands of Sardinian emigrants ».
