The wave of severe weather that has hit Sardinia in the past few hours has not gone unnoticed: the countryside around Cagliari has paid the highest price, and is now counting the damage . The hardest-hit farms are located in Monastir, Pimentel, Barrali, Senorbì, and the greater Cagliari area, but the repercussions extend far beyond. Torrential rains and hail have devastated crops, fodder, and farm structures, causing serious damage to farmers and ranchers.

The severe weather has devastated vineyards and olive groves, including numerous organic farms. In just a few hours, entire rows were downed or irreversibly damaged. The losses also extend to open field produce: watermelons, melons, and vegetables, already in full harvest, are in many cases completely compromised. The situation regarding forage crops is particularly serious: hectares have been destroyed or damaged, with direct consequences for livestock farms, which now risk losing the necessary food for their livestock. This damage will not end immediately, but will have repercussions on the economic sustainability of farms for months. Significant damage has also been reported to farm structures, with devastated greenhouses, unusable machinery, and compromised farm buildings, exacerbating the financial burden and making it even more difficult to resume operations. This picture paints a picture of an agricultural region affected at the heart of its productivity.

"The damage is significant," declared Giorgio Demurtas and Giuseppe Casu , president and director of Coldiretti Cagliari. "Many administrations are already taking steps to declare a state of natural disaster. We hope that the Regional Department of Agriculture will soon allocate financial resources to compensate for the losses and damages, which, in many cases, correspond to an entire year's work, particularly to certain crops and fodder crops."
