No other patients were involved. The AOU of Sassari is addressing what happened last night in the emergency room, when an inmate went berserk, became violent, and was handcuffed by prison officers.
"At the time of the incident, the patient's emergency room care had already been completed," the hospital said in a statement. "The patient had completed all the necessary clinical and diagnostic tests, and hospitalization had already been arranged. The patient was simply awaiting transfer by ambulance to the designated ward located in the San Pietro complex."
The AOU recalls that the facility has a dedicated area for detained patients, "separated from other operating areas and organized to ensure safe conditions." The incident occurred precisely within this dedicated area, without involving other patients in the emergency room. The Authority reiterates its focus on the safety of healthcare workers, law enforcement, and all users accessing the hospital.
