The cycle-pedestrian connection between the town of Uta and the Villaspeciosa railway station will soon be a reality. The Metropolitan City of Cagliari has awarded the works for the construction of the crossing, which falls within the territory of Villaspeciosa but has always served both Municipalities. The works will start in the coming weeks .
«Thanks to the intense and precious work of the offices of the Metropolitan City, and in particular of the road infrastructure service and the sole contracting station, we managed to respect the timing that we had set ourselves to ensure that we gave the territory an important work» , underlines the director general of the institution Stefano Mameli . "The hope is that the issues related to mobility, but also to the safety of the area, can be completed by finding additional resources".
THE PROJECT – The first lot , built by the Metropolitan City of Cagliari following an agreement with the Province of Southern Sardinia (under which jurisdiction falls the Municipality of Villaspeciosa and therefore the station), and financed with regional funds for 1 million and 200 thousand euro, provides for the construction of an overpass bridge and a route towards Uta.
The overpass section will consist of a steel bridge which will be accessed from the railway stop square via an elevator . The latter will have a capacity of 15 people and will also be suitable for the transport of bicycles. A small covered structure will also be built in the square for bike parking . The cycle/pedestrian ramp linking the direction of Uta will be built with colored bitumen and equipped with signs and side protection devices for pedestrians and cyclists.
A second lot , still awaiting funding, involves the construction of the cycle /pedestrian path in the direction of Villaspeciosa up to the intersection at the junction with the provincial road 90, which, once subsidized, will be designed according to methods similar to those of the first lot.
Great satisfaction from the mayors of Uta and Villaspeciosa, Giacomo Porcu and Gianluca Melis.
