The church of Cristo Re in Valledoria will be restored after the arson attacks that destroyed much of the furnishings, making the building uninhabitable .

The Cultural Heritage Office of the Diocese of Tempio-Ampurias has made available 400 thousand euros, an allocation   approved by the Regional Council on December 12.

The serious act of intimidation had shaken the community of Valledoria and forced the parish priest, Don Francesco Mocci, to transfer to another diocesan office . Don Mocci, originally from Villanovaforru, had recently been appointed assistant parish priest of the Agony of Our Lady of Jesus Christ, in the hamlet of Moneta in La Maddalena. Following the serious arson attacks that had damaged the church and rectory in the village , the bishop, Monsignor Francesco Fornaciari, had ordered, for security reasons and to protect the priest, the termination of his duties as parish priest of the parishes of Christ the King and Our Lady of Fatima, which in Valledoria had been entrusted to Don Mocci.

The second arson attack, carried out on January 8th, shortly before the end of Mass, had rendered part of the building uninhabitable, with fuses found in various locations throughout the building, including the sacristy. The new resources will allow the church to be returned to the faithful.

Full details of the project will be provided by the head of the Cultural Heritage Office of the Diocese of Tempio, Father Francesco Tamponi, at a meeting scheduled for the morning of Monday, December 15.
