Two starlings, found dead in Oristano , and a group of mosquitoes, captured in Arborea , tested positive for the Usutu Virus , less dangerous for humans than Nile Fever (West Nile).

In Oristano , all the prevention and control measures implemented by the Municipality of Oristano are already in force , which has already published an ordinance two months ago, as well as in the municipal area of Arborea , which had already taken steps a few months ago to issue a specific ordinance to contain the circulation of Usutu and Nile Fever viruses.

In recent months , another starling and a pool of mosquitoes had tested positive for the Usutu Virus in Oristano .

"The situation is under control - says Enrico Vacca, director of the ASL 5 service - the same precautions to be adopted for citizens, already communicated to prevent infections of the Nile Fever virus, remain valid ".

CONTAGION – The Usutu virus (Usuv), a lesser-known Nile Fever virus, is also capable of causing both significant mortality among populations of some bird species and symptoms in humans , although the ability to induce clinical forms neuro-invasive seems to be, to date, limited to a few sporadic reports.

This virus is also transmitted between birds and mammals via infected mosquitoes (especially of the Culex genus). The Usutu virus disease can cause asymptomatic forms, influenza forms and, in the most serious but very rare cases, meningo-encephalitis in humans.
