Two more appointments to lead departments at the University of Sassari   after the   elections for renewal   of the directors. The Department of Medicine, Surgery, and Pharmacy has chosen continuity, electing Professor Angela Spanu for a second consecutive term. The Department of Biomedical Sciences has confirmed Professor Franca Deriu in her role.

Angela Spanu , Full Professor of Nuclear Medicine, is Director of the Nuclear Medicine Unit at the University Hospital of Sassari and President of the Italian Association of Nuclear Medicine. Her research, published in indexed international journals, focuses on the use of nuclear medicine imaging in oncology, endocrinology, and neurological medicine, as well as radiomics and artificial intelligence.

After her re-election, Angela Spanu stated: "In a rapidly evolving University environment, I am aware that over the next three years, I will need to make an even greater commitment to reaffirm and further strengthen the crucial role historically played by the Department of Medicine, which in recent years has been enriched by the addition of both teaching and non-teaching staff from Pharmacy."

Franca Deriu , Full Professor of Physiology, continues to lead Biomedical Sciences. Her internationally renowned scientific profile is characterized by an integrated approach to neuroscience, ranging from the study of the physiological mechanisms underlying sensorimotor integration to clinical neurophysiology and neural adaptations to exercise and neuromodulation. Some of these studies have led to the discovery of a nervous reflex, which is currently used clinically for diagnostic purposes in patients with otoneurological and neurological disorders.

Director Deriu commented: "The renewed consensus and trust from our community are not only a source of profound pride, but above all a testament to a Department that believes in itself and its capabilities. My mandate aims to consolidate this participatory approach and achieve a further leap in quality, transforming the results achieved into new opportunities for growth."
