A hellish summer is looming for vacationers traveling along the coastal road to Villasimius, passing through Quartu, from Marina Residence to Terra Mala, on their way to the beaches. Contrary to the mandated closure of all construction sites by May 31st to avoid disrupting already chaotic summer traffic, the Metropolitan City has granted an extension to Terna's work.
So while Abbanoa and the fiber optic cable company have regularly halted work, the Tyrrhenian Link project continues until June 30th, but a further postponement of the construction site closure is not ruled out. This news comes as a bolt from the blue for vacationers, who for at least another month, and perhaps even longer, will have to resign themselves to alternating one-way streets, traffic lights, and lane restrictions. This comes at a time when, with school closures in the coming days, traffic heading to the beaches will increase significantly, not only on weekends but also on weekdays.
For years, no work had been permitted on the coastal road, precisely to avoid interfering with the already chaotic traffic towards the sea, with construction sites that could increase the risk of accidents with heavy traffic. The Municipality, completely unhappy with the extension granted by the Metropolitan City, had immediately expressed strong opposition to the issue and is ready to push for a halt to the work well before the agreed deadline.
