The straps broke and the heavy load of pipes overwhelmed him. This is believed to be the cause of the workplace accident that killed Carlo Spiga, a 61-year-old truck driver from Monastir, this morning at the Porto Canale in Cagliari .

According to initial reports, the man was crushed during the loading of pipes destined for Arbatax. The initial hypothesis is that the straps holding the pipes broke. The reason for this remains unclear, given that they are specifically designed to withstand significant stress.

Carabinieri officers from the Cagliari company and the provincial command intervened to carry out the investigation, along with coroner Roberto Demontis and the Carabinieri unit for the protection of work.

Deputy Prosecutor Nicoletta Mari, sent by Chief Prosecutor Rodolfo Sabelli and accompanied by Spresal inspectors, has been present since this morning. A manslaughter investigation has already been opened in the case.

The industrial port was closed and activities were stopped on all docks.
