"Enough tragedies! We need safety measures to combat the dangers of stray animals on Sardinia's roads, starting with barriers and deterrents." This is the appeal launched by numerous mayors —and shared by many motorists—after the tragic accident on the Sassari-Olbia highway , which claimed the life of Ciriaco Meloni , a doctor from Bitti, who died following a collision between his car and a wild boar.
In addition to the mourning and the awareness that fatalities do happen, calls are being renewed for the Provinces and ANAS to secure the most dangerous stretches. Targeted interventions, including culling, are also being requested. Businesses are also urging action due to the damage caused by free-roaming animals.
