A 64-year-old Tuscan hotelier died this morning on Rena di Matteu beach, on the Aglientu coast . Unfortunately, all rescue efforts were unsuccessful; the tragedy occurred in front of his wife, who was on the beach. Rena di Matteu is very close to Rena Majore.

Due to the condition of the roads, one of the access points to Rena di Matteu has been closed for at least two years. Emergency personnel had difficulty identifying the area where the rescue operation had been requested . They couldn't locate the site and even chose the wrong beach.

The ambulances arrived at 12:33, the alarm having been raised shortly before midday. The Arrus helicopter arrived at 12:57 .

Rena di Matteu is one of the free beaches on the Aglientu coast; there are no concessions and therefore no lifeguards. According to witnesses, the victim was in difficulty and was unable to reach shore. Probably after numerous attempts, the man became ill. Staff from the Porto Torres Port Authority also responded to the scene.
