The 51-year-old parachutist from Cremona, Simone Bacchiega, who was the victim of a terrible accident this morning at the Is Paulis airfield in the Serdiana area, may have been betrayed by a turn at around 40 metres above the ground.
The man, a great expert in the discipline with 600 flights under his belt, died instantly before the eyes of his friends who had come with him from Cremona and the school instructor, who tried in vain to save his life, even using a defibrillator. All to no avail.
Emergency personnel and Carabinieri from the Dolianova Company arrived on site and began an investigation. According to an initial reconstruction of the facts, the man apparently jumped from a height of approximately 4,000 meters . During the final stages of his descent, having reached just a few dozen meters above the ground, he performed a sudden turn. This maneuver caused an anomaly in his flight path, causing him to lose control of his glider and plummet to the ground .
This is the first fatal accident at the Is Paulis airfield, a very popular location. The news spread quickly and sparked widespread grief. A friend of the 51-year-old, who had arrived with him from Cremona this morning, alerted the victim's sister, who remained on the peninsula.
