Border police officers at Elmas airport found eight mineral stones, likely calcite, inside the hold luggage of a Dutch passenger departing for Amsterdam.
From the reconstruction of the facts, it emerged that the stones were taken from the Pan di Zucchero stack during an excursion in which the tourist had participated in recent days.
The removal, according to a statement, is made even more serious by the fact that it occurred at the expense of a "natural monument" within a declared protected area.
The stones were seized and the man was charged with damage to the national archaeological, historical, or artistic heritage, destruction or deterioration of habitats within a protected site, and destruction or defacement of natural beauty.
