The victim of a mysterious beating, he died nineteen days after being admitted to the hospital. Giampaolo Ferrai, 62, known to all as Paolo, passed away late Sunday evening at Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari. His death changes the criminal charges under investigation by the Lanusei Prosecutor's Office: no longer assault, but murder.

A former shepherd, Ferrai was found at 7:55 a.m. on April 7 near the door of the apartment where he lived (alone), at number 16 Via Siotto Pintor. He was unconscious and had a crushed skull.

The investigations

Is there a killer on the loose, or did Ferrai simply fall? Considering the type of trauma he suffered, the immediate implication was a beating. The 62-year-old was a frequent guest at the Caritas Center in Tortolì. It was there, in the days leading up to the incident, that he allegedly confided in someone, asking for clarification on the use of an app to check his bank account balance. It's possible that another guest overheard part of the conversation and then tracked Ferrai down, attempting to steal his money and data. Ferrai, moreover, had allegedly had an argument with an acquaintance over a necklace in the days leading up to the incident.
