«The embrace of Sardinia» and the hope that from Rome «a voice of peace may rise» .

Sardinian institutions also wish the new Pope Leo XIV a happy birthday.

"To His Holiness I extend my heartfelt wishes for the journey that awaits him, that awaits us," writes President Alessandra Todde . "Never before has the figure of the Pope been called to interpret the pain and hopes of a humanity wounded by wars that continue without respite, by new and old forms of poverty that strike the most fragile, up to ever deeper inequalities ."

The hope is that " from Rome a voice of peace will rise, capable of crossing borders and speaking to the entire world ."

"As Sardinian people," Todde concludes, "we are certain that our land will receive the same attention and closeness that Pope Francis wanted to reserve for us, also bringing to Sardinia a message of peace, hope and care ."

Prime Minister Piero Comandini also emphasizes peace: "Sardinia affectionately embraces the new Pope Leo XIV. The hope is that the new Pope will work tirelessly to find the peace that the world needs ."

"On behalf of the Regional Council and Sardinia as a whole, I extend my best wishes for a successful job to the new Pontiff. There are many expectations for Francis' successor. The international situation is extremely complicated, there is a need for peace, spirituality, but also the ability to mediate", concludes Comandini, who is also certain that, "even with the new bishop of Rome, that relationship of great attention towards Sardinia that has distinguished his predecessors will be established" .
