To burn a pile of waste, he started a large fire in Santa Giusta , incinerating two hectares of land and threatening homes and farms .
It happened last June 2nd and the man, an eighty-year-old, was identified by the Forestry Corps personnel and reported for illegal waste management and negligent arson.
A day of great fear, in the countryside of Santa Giusta: only the prompt intervention of the Forestry Corps, the Forestas teams and the Fire Brigade allowed the fire to be quickly contained and consequences that could have been much worse for infrastructure, homes and people. The flames incinerated an area of 2 hectares of arable land and eucalyptus trees .
The investigations immediately led to the identification of the arson nature of the fire, which started on a farm near a pigsty where cardboard and plastic containers used to feed pigs are usually incinerated (a practice that is a risk to public health also due to toxic fumes). Furthermore, the combustion was carried out in the same site intended for the deposition of manure, an organic material that is dangerous when temperatures are high: the fire, in fact, can remain latent for days in the internal layers and reactivate in the presence of favorable conditions, such as the heat and sirocco recorded on the day of the fire.
The person responsible, an eighty-year-old owner of the agricultural land and pig farm, was therefore reported to the judicial authorities and must answer for illegal waste management and negligent arson .
