The difficult situation of Tiscali Notizie is the focus of a press release from the Regional Council of the Order of Journalists. We publish it in full below.

The Regional Council of the Order of Journalists has examined, based on official press releases and news reports, the situation of the Tiscali Notizie newspaper, which—according to recent meetings between the Editorial Board and the Regional Press Association and the current owners of Tiscali Italia—is at risk of being closed down as part of the company's restructuring and the rumored sale to a new group.

The Order of Journalists expresses deep concern at the possibility of the disappearance of a publication of fundamental importance to the island's information pluralism, one that has played a key role in the history of 21st-century online information, not only regionally but also nationally. The hope is that, whatever the fate of Tiscali as a whole, those who decide its fate will adequately assess the importance of the Tiscali Notizie newspaper and value the journalistic professionals within it. The Order's Council also expresses its support and appreciation for the union's action by the internal representative body and the Sardinian Press Association, supported by the National Federation of Italian Press (FNSI), to protect colleagues engaged in a difficult dispute that aims to safeguard not only the jobs of individuals, but also the richness and completeness of the island's information landscape.
