The Carabinieri of Quartu are continuing their investigation to reconstruct the circumstances of Saturday's road accident in Solanas, which resulted in the deaths of Settimo San Pietro gardener Giuliano Ortu and Quartu pensioner Rodolfo Monaco.
Understandably, confidentiality is being maintained regarding the investigation.
As is known, the driver of the van is currently under investigation (as required) for double vehicular homicide. He allegedly crossed into the oncoming lane while traveling on the Nuova Orientale highway, crashing into the Fiat 500 in which the victims were traveling. It is not excluded that the 69-year-old man from Elmas suffered a sudden illness, causing the van to end up in the oncoming lane.
The man has already been released from the hospital. The members of the small family of English tourists the van was taking to Villasimius are also doing better. The footage from the ANAS security cameras will undoubtedly be crucial in reconstructing the accident.
The investigation is being conducted by Major Michele Cerri and Lieutenants Vittorio Piras and Andrea Boni of the Quartu Carabinieri Company.
Giuliano Ortu's funeral will be held today at 10:30 a.m. in the parish of Settimo.
