The trial for the murder of Miguel Angel Paez, the Argentine chef massacred inside his apartment on Via Marche in Olbia in February last year and who died in hospital after months of agony, has begun in the Assize Court in Sassari .

The Sassari Assize Court rejected Giuliano Petta's request for a psychiatric evaluation. Following further requests from his lawyers, the trial was adjourned until November 25.

Prosecutor Noemi Mancini closed the investigation (there is also a decree for immediate trial) charging the man with voluntary homicide aggravated by cruelty and torture.

The charges are against Michael Brundu, Giuliano Petta, and Alex Russo. The picture painted by prosecutor Mancini, based on the Carabinieri investigation, is extremely serious. Paez was allegedly robbed on January 23, 2024, by Brundu, along with other unidentified individuals . Then, according to the documents, the raid took place on February 3, and the 70-year-old man, after a hail of bullets all over his body, was left dying in his home. Paez died in the hospital at the end of a nine-month ordeal.

The three people under investigation for voluntary manslaughter are being defended by lawyers Cristina Cherchi, Adriano Catte, and Maria Eleonora Bianco. Michael Brundu and Giuliano Petta are in prison, while criminal lawyer Cristina Cherchi has long since obtained house arrest for Alex Russo.
