The new scheduled surgery was inaugurated this morning at San Camillo di Sorgono, in the presence of the regional health councilor Carlo Doria, the director of ASL 3 Paolo Cannas and the head doctor of the new department Francesco Cabras.

The area, also known as "Week surgery", strongly supported by the Nuoro Local Health Authority, was born from the desire to give new light to the Mandrolisai garrison , bridging the distances from the main hospitals on the island.

Characterizing the service: two new operating rooms refurbished (after a two-year hiatus) and equipped with modern technologies . They will be flanked by the new 10-bed wing on which the finishing touches are underway and now supported by the Medicine department, guaranteeing continuity in the action of the healthcare workers.

In the meantime , the roadmap has already been scheduled, with the first intervention set for September 18th.

Present at the ribbon cutting were several local mayors led by Franco Zedde of Sorgono, the regional councilor for public works Pierluigi Saiu, and the extraordinary commissioner of the Province Costantino Tidu. The representation of ASL 3 is strong with, in addition to the Director General Cannas, the Health Director Serafino Ponti, the Director of the San Francesco di Nuoro Grazia Cattina, the Director of Social and Health Services Gesuina Cherchi.

We did not want to miss the representatives of the associations of patients, children with their families and elderly people.

«A day of celebration – began the Director General Cannas – we open the new operating rooms and the surgical activity. In this phase, with medium-low density interventions of care, we will also evaluate other options in the future."

And then: «This is an ambitious project - continued Cannas - because we will restart many specialties including the community hospital, prevention activities and much more. All in synergy with mayors and the mountain community. Within 6 months we will complete the internal restructuring of all departments."

Regional councilor Doria is satisfied: «An important moment for the whole territory, functional to the corporate act that we have approved, giving value to small facilities. Week surgery will benefit the waiting lists for uncomplicated surgery, which has no place in large hospitals. All this by revitalizing centers like this."

The new head doctor Francesco Cabras, arriving from the Monserrato Polyclinic, is excited: «I am satisfied with the start of this exciting project. I arrive in Mandrolisai willing to contribute my skills to the local healthcare system. As a doctor I felt I could offer my support where it was needed. And I'm happy with the choice I made."
