There are events you wait patiently for, and then there are those that seem impossible to believe until you see them written down in black and white. The Gin & Tonic Festival, the largest and most original gin-themed event in Italy, is coming to Sardinia for the first time , and it's doing so in grand style, as the inaugural stop on the 2026 Tour. The event was also chosen to celebrate ten years of a format that in a decade has become a national benchmark for gin & tonic culture. The Sardinian stop is a collaboration with Spirits and Gin Sardinia, with the contribution of the Italian Federation of Barmen and Barladies of the Sardinia Region and the support of the Municipality of Marrubiu and the Region of Sardinia. The event is scheduled for today and tomorrow at the Ex Cantina Sociale di Marrubiu, along the SS 126. A place steeped in history and tradition, in a strategic location that attracts visitors from all over the island.
"Bringing the festival to Sardinia is a goal we've been pursuing for a long time," says Giacomo Basciu, president and founder, along with his siblings Irene and Daniele, of Spirits & Gin Sardinia APS. "The island has a curious and passionate audience; they deserved this experience. We chose Marrubiu precisely for the symbolic value of the location. The former social winery speaks of community, culture, and sharing—values we deeply hold dear."
The festival's protagonists will be over 400 gin labels to discover and taste, through an immersive journey through national, international, and local productions, with a dedicated section for local labels and Sardinian distributors. Those who want to delve deeper can participate in free international masterclasses led by industry experts. And for those who want to go further, there's the "Create Your Own Gin" experience, where you can choose your own botanicals, aromas, and combinations, and take home a unique, personalized spirit. "We worked to create something well-rounded," explains Irene Basciu. "We didn't just want to bring bottles to Sardinia. We wanted visitors to feel like they were inside a world where they could learn, taste, dance, eat, and take home a souvenir. Collaboration with local companies was crucial, to promote and appreciate local products in a festive and convivial atmosphere." DJ sets will span genres and generations, while Tenores di Neoneli will perform on Sunday at 3:30 pm. The food truck area will offer a wide and varied selection of food, including meat, fish, vegan options, traditional desserts, summer delicacies, and pizza. There will also be a gin shop for your favorite labels, a market area with crafts, books, clothing, honey, and local products, and stands selling henna tattoos and braids. And for families with children, there will be a dedicated area with slides, inflatables, rides, and face painting by Spassiolandia.
Sardinia doesn't easily forget what moves it. And when the scent of juniper mingles with music, the May breeze, and the ancient stone of a cellar that has seen generations of harvests, it's hard for anything to pass by without leaving its mark.
