Two lightning strikes caused the fires that broke out yesterday afternoon in Bolotana and Nurri.
Confirmation of the cause of the fire in the village of Ispinarba, Marghine, comes from the Forestry Corps: "The event occurred in one of the areas subject to a critical warning for hydrogeological risk due to storms issued by the regional Civil Protection," a statement reads. The statement continues: "Immediate investigations carried out by members of the Investigative Unit of the Nuoro Forestry Corps have confirmed that the evidence collected at the scene, together with the testimonies of several people present in the area at the time, allow us to attribute the fire's origin with a high probability to a lightning strike during the storm that hit the area."
The timely intervention of ground teams made it possible to "contain the fire and limit its spread, avoiding more serious consequences for the affected area. Final investigations are underway to definitively quantify the areas affected by the fire."
The same cause, lightning, struck in Nurri, according to Mayor Roberta Cancedda, who monitored the situation throughout the day. In the center of Sarcidano, the helicopters deployed to put out the flames had to return to base due to the violence of the storm that hit the area.
