For 8 years he had not paid the rent of the house where he lived, in via Agricola in Monserrato. And the owner, who lived downstairs, had repeatedly claimed the due, even going so far as to sue him, which resulted in an executive eviction, expected in February. Meanwhile, quarrels and discussions between the defaulting tenant and the landlord have never ceased. Until the tragic ending this morning.
The owner of the building Antonio Pisu, a 79-year-old construction contractor, went up to Luigi Piras, 76, to ask him, for the umpteenth time, when he would pack his bags. The result was yet another altercation at the height of which Piras took up a 7.65 caliber pistol, firing. Pisu, hit in the chest, had no escape.
What happens next has been reconstructed as follows: alarmed by the shot, the victim's relatives sound the alarm. Pisu's son goes up and finds his father lifeless and immediately tries to stop Piras, still armed. At least three more blows start in the struggle. In the end Piras is blocked and disarmed and taken over by the police, to be taken first to the Brotzu for some medications and then to the police station. He is now in custody, charged with murder.

The incident aroused great dismay in Monserrato. "I knew Antonio Pisu well - says the mayor Tomaso Locci - he was an esteemed person and well liked by everyone, like his whole family. They are hard workers. It is a tragedy that affects the whole community. Monserrato is a town where these facts do not never happen, we are upset. "
